Encourage students to develop a process or walkthrough demonstration that could be used in the professional setting.

Why Create this Learning Experience

As students prepare to enter the workforce, they may encounter an expectation to develop their own training materials and/or mentor others. This activity relies on a student-led component. It is best to use a software, application, or concept that students have encountered earlier in the course and/or program.

To foster an interactive and engaging activity be sure to clearly articulate the expectations and establish parameters within the prompt. See the additional considerations on how to appropriately use this activity.

  • It is recommended to start with a smaller topic for undergraduate-level courses so students can practice the technique. Graduate-level courses can employ advance topics.
  • Advertise this activity early in the semester. Give students ample time to prepare and complete this activity. When possible, provide students with advance notice that this activity will be taking place.
  • Clearly articulate activity instructions and expectations, such as purpose, context, collaboration methods, submission format, deadlines, netiquette, model submission examples.
  • Consider a rubric to provide students with directions and how their submission(s) will be evaluated.
